A note on the weekend

It just occurred to me that I should explain about the weekend here. The Muslim holy day is Friday, the Jewish Sabbath is Saturday, and the Christian holy day is Sunday (for many Christians here). In general, however, the work week is Sunday-Thursday or Friday. Everything shuts down for the Jewish Shabbat. So, the Biblical Language Center decided to follow a Monday-Friday work week, to allow us to have time to be able to actually see something on our days off.

Hi Peter,

Great stuff you are posting. Esp. meaningful to me was the piece about Mt. Nebo and God's denial of Moses" entering the promised land. Makes me desire strongly to be faithful and obedient to the end.

Have you been to visit the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu ("cock crowing") on what is commonly known as "Mt. Zion"? If you haven't, it's worth a visit for sure. The Catholic fathers show you through the church, where there is a dungeon under the church where tradition (fairly reliable, I think)and inscriptions identify this as the place where Jesus was held after he was seized and questioned by the high priest, before he was taken to Pilate first thing in the morning. You can go into this pit.

Under the church roof is also said to be the courtyard where Peter warmed himself by the fire, and denied Jesus (hence the name). I was moved more by this place than any other site in Israel, except perhaps the Garden Tomb and the Road to Emmaus.

The church is just a few hundred steps (if my memory is correct) from what used to be called the "American Institute for Holy Land Studies."

Nick Matchefts had about 3 humorous stories in his sermon on Sunday, acc. to Judy. It's probably on Bethany's blog.

Blessings to you, and happy studying!
